Fort Bliss Transition Expo 2026: What to Know Before May 19
The Fort Bliss Transition Expo 2026 is two weeks out, and the soldiers who get the most out of it are the ones who show up with a plan. Whether you're in your final 180 days, just starting to think about your ETS date, or a spouse navigating the transition alongside your service member — this event is built for you. Moreover, the difference between a handshake and a job offer often comes down to preparation. Here's everything you need to walk in ready.
Fort Bliss Transition Expo 2026 at a Glance
What Is the Fort Bliss Annual Transition EXPO?
The Fort Bliss Transition Expo 2026 is a two-day event organized by the Fort Bliss Transition Assistance Program — the same TAP office that runs your mandatory transition counseling. It's the largest transition-focused career event on the installation. Moreover, it's designed to do something the standard TAP curriculum can't: put you in the same room as real hiring managers, career coaches, and certification providers before you sign your DD-214.
Day 1 is all about preparation. Centurion Military Alliance workshops run from 8 AM at Stayton Theater. The sessions cover interviewing skills, personal pitch development, resume review, and networking. Additionally, the CMA team has been a fixture at the Fort Bliss TAP expo for multiple years. Their "Competitive Advantage" framework is built specifically around what Fort Bliss soldiers face in the civilian job market.
Day 2 is the Fort Bliss transition career fair. Last year's event drew more than 130 employers to the Centennial Club floor. The roster included federal agencies, defense contractors, and private sector companies like Boeing, SAIC, and University Medical Center of El Paso. The 2026 employer list will be confirmed through Fort Bliss TAP. However, the pattern holds: defense contractors, federal agencies, and healthcare systems dominate the floor, with a strong showing from companies that specifically recruit cleared veterans.

What Certifications Give You an Edge at the Fort Bliss Transition Expo 2026?
Walking into the Fort Bliss Transition Expo 2026 with a current certification looks very different than walking in without one. Recruiters at this event — especially defense contractors and federal agencies — move faster on candidates whose credentials are already verified. Here's what moves the needle most on the Day 2 floor.
SAP S/4HANA is the highest-leverage certification for logistics, finance, supply chain, and IT MOSs. Companies like Capgemini, Accenture Federal, and Deloitte are consistently present at Fort Bliss transition events recruiting SAP-certified candidates. Additionally, SMLA's SAP S/4HANA certification program runs on-base at Fort Bliss — our classroom is at 620 Doniphan Rd, minutes from the expo floor.
CompTIA Security+ is the credential defense contractors look for first when recruiting cleared candidates. Furthermore, it meets DoD 8140 baseline requirements and is non-negotiable for 25-series and cyber MOSs. SMLA's CompTIA certification training covers the full A+/Network+/Security+ stack with current 8140 alignment.
PMP and CAPM translate rank into project authority. Any MOS with team leadership, planning, or cross-functional coordination experience maps directly to project management roles across construction, IT, healthcare, and federal contracting. Similarly, SMLA's PMP and CAPM certification training runs in a weekend bootcamp format built for soldiers on a tight timeline.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt works across every industry represented on the expo floor — manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and federal government all hire Green Belts to drive process improvement. Moreover, SMLA's Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification takes 4–8 weeks and pairs well with PMP for operations-track roles.
If you're not yet certified, the expo is the starting line — not the finish line. For a full breakdown of which certification fits your MOS and timeline, see our guide to the best certifications for veterans transitioning out of military service.
SkillBridge Programs at Fort Bliss: Use the Expo to Start Your Next Mission
One of the most underused conversations at any Fort Bliss SkillBridge expo event is the one about what you can start before you leave. Most soldiers at Fort Bliss in El Paso know SkillBridge exists. However, far fewer know that a SkillBridge-approved certification program — with a permanent classroom on the installation — has been operating here since 2013, and the next cohort starts July 7.
SMLA is one of the longest-running Career Skills Program partners in the Army. Our Fort Bliss classroom at 620 Doniphan Rd has trained soldiers transitioning out of El Paso since the CSP launched at Fort Hood. We've been on post at Bliss ever since. As a result, if you are within 180 days of your ETS date, you may be eligible to attend on full military pay and benefits — zero tuition out-of-pocket, certification included.
The timing for soldiers attending the May 19–20 expo is as clean as it gets. Our Summer 2026 cohort at Fort Bliss starts July 7 — just 48 days after the expo closes. Therefore, soldiers who connect with SMLA at the expo and enroll can be SAP-certified and in the job pipeline by September. The full 2026 Fort Bliss cohort schedule:
- Spring II: April 14 – June 19, 2026
- Summer: July 7 – September 10, 2026
- Fall: September 29 – December 4, 2026
How to Prepare for the Fort Bliss Transition Expo 2026
The soldiers who leave the hiring fair with real conversations — and follow-up calls — are the ones who treated Day 1 like practice and Day 2 like a mission. Here is exactly what to expect at the Fort Bliss Transition Expo 2026, and how to prepare for both days.
Before the expo:
- Register now on Eventbrite. Spots fill — don't wait until the week of the event.
- Bring at least 20 printed resume copies. One per booth minimum on the hiring fair floor. Print on clean white paper, no decorative borders.
- Dress business professional or business casual. The floor is civilian — dress like you already have the job.
- Research the employer list in advance. When the 2026 list drops through Fort Bliss TAP channels, spend 30 minutes identifying your top 10 targets.
- Know your MOS-to-civilian translation. "92A" means nothing to a Boeing recruiter. "Logistics and supply chain management with battalion-level inventory accountability" does.
Day 1 — CMA workshops:
- Show up and participate actively. Practice a 30-second intro the night before that drops rank language and speaks to skills, outcomes, and value.
- Take the resume review seriously. CMA coaches give real feedback. Bring the version you plan to hand out on Day 2.
- Use the networking session. The other soldiers in the room are your future professional network.
Day 2 — Hiring fair:
- Prioritize your list the night before. With 130+ booths, you need a route. Hit your top targets in the first hour when energy is high and lines are shorter.
- Lead with your clearance if you have one. Defense contractors specifically recruit cleared candidates. Say it in your first sentence.
- Collect business cards and follow up within 24 hours. Candidates who send a same-evening email stand out from 90% of the floor.

We are not a vendor flying in for the day. Our classroom is at 620 Doniphan Rd. Fort Bliss is our home installation and has been since 2013. Our outcomes: 85% job placement rate, 95% SAP certification pass rate, 81% overall certification pass rate.
